Conceptual art of a Paleoindian settlement. Typically at this time there weren't many permanent settlements (this started more towards the Archaic period), but the timeline of the comic lies roughly on the boundary between these two periods when actual settlement and large populations of people (relative to the small migrating family groups of before anyway) were common enough that archaeologists have found a lot of evidence of their houses.
However due to the impermanent nature of most paleoindian huts (being grass mats, sticks and hides most of the time) it's unlikely we can really know just how extensive their family life really was. It didn't bear all that much resemblance to modern native american lifestyles. Modern american indians have extremely varied and highly developed cultures that vary wildly from region to region. You can't simply say "here's some ice age natives" and stick cherokee outfits on them. It would be the equivalent of pointing to modern Italians and thinking their lifestyle is the same as ancient Romans. In fact, that's less extreme considering there's only about 1.5k difference between THOSE cultures, where as modern american indians have a 10k or more gap between themselves and paleoindians.

Unfortunately this same gap means there's really not that much we know about those peoples. They're called the Clovis and the Fosom, among other names, according to the technologies they used. This made up group, while bearing a resemblance to those, isn't Clovis or Fosom. It's an educated guess at lifestyles and clothing based on what they had available to them and what we know about the limits of technology at the time (so no bows and arrows or riding horses) with a little cultural flavor derived from some modern indian groups as a way to suggest this might be the ancestor of those practices. Did these people really exist? No, but I tried to fashion something that would conceivably exist and hopefully would be interesting too.
